Ceramic Tube Ferrules are a mushroom shaped ceramic insert that is cemented into place within the end of each smoketube within the combustion chamber. The idea is the hot flue gases can’t attack the seal welds at the ends of each tube and prevent cracking.
This can be a real bonus in certain boilers that have an extremely high temperature and are prone to tube end cracks, it can prevent lengthy periods of downtime and costly repairs.
